The GHG Net Flux dataset estimates greenhouse gas emissions and removals from forest-related land use across the tropics. It combines satellite-based tree cover change data with carbon stock and land-use information to track CO₂ fluxes annually at a high spatial resolution.

The GHG Net Flux dataset is part of the forest carbon flux model by Harris et al. (2021), which supports global monitoring of greenhouse gas fluxes in forests.
It estimates cumulative atmospheric carbon sequestration (2001–2023) by forest growth, including both aboveground and belowground biomass, across forests present in 2000 or established by 2020.
Calculations follow IPCC guidelines, assuming no change in dead wood, litter, or soil carbon pools. Removals are mapped by forest type, ecozone, forest age, and duration of carbon uptake.
The data is presented as both density (Mg CO₂/ha) and absolute pixel values, suitable for visualization and area-specific assessments.
Key model updates in 2023–2024 include revised biomass ratios, expanded tree cover gain data, improved fire and peatland sources, and updated GWP constants and removal factors.
All inputs were harmonized to a 0.00025° resolution for consistency.

The World Resources Institute (WRI) is a global research organization focused on sustainable development and environmental protection. WRI works on issues like climate, energy, food, and forests helping governments and businesses make informed, sustainable choices.
Global Forest Watch is an online platform that provides data and tools for monitoring forests worldwide in near real-time. It helps governments, companies, and the public track deforestation, forest degradation, and land use change using satellite technology and open data. The platform is led by the World Resources Institute (WRI), which promotes transparency to support forest protection and climate action.
